The Church tells us that “The apostolate of all religious consists primarily in the witness of their consecrated life, which they are bound to foster through prayer and penance.” (CIC 673)
“As poor people, the brothers and sisters to whom the Lord has given the grace of serving or working with their hands should do so faithfully and conscientiously.” (Franciscan Rule No 18) “In exchange for their service or work, they may accept anything necessary for their own temporal needs and for that of their sisters or brothers.” (Franciscan Rule No 19)
In our apostolate we dedicate ourselves to the service of Christ in His brothers and sisters according to the needs of the Church and society under the guidance of the local Bishop. We serve in healthcare, parish apostolate, diocesan ministries and plan for teaching apostolate in the future.
Some of our Sisters are nurses at the OSF Healthcare St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. In their ministry they daily answer the call to imitate Christ the Good Samaritan as He is the One who is always “moved with pity” for the suffering, the poor, and the hungry ones. They offer their hands that Christ may continue to touch and heal His wounded people, through their words they let Christ speak the words of comfort, of hope, and of eternal life.
When our Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C. asked us in 2008 to set up the diocesan museum and the Archbishop Fulton Sheen museum in Peoria, we saw God’s providence in it because Archbishop Sheen has been our inspiration from the beginning of our community. After his example we have a daily Holy Hour which we offer for priests and seminarians. Archbishop Sheen was from Peoria and his cause for beatification is now open in Rome. It is a great joy and privilege for us to be involved in promoting the life and works of such a great evangelist who touched the lives of millions of people throughout the world. In addition to our museum apostolate, the Sisters also give tours at our newly restored Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception located only a block from the museums.
It is an honor to bring the presence and witness of consecrated life to the parish family through our sacristy work and participation in parish apostolate at St. Thomas Church in Peoria Heights.
